Dave Johnson

Dave Johnson headed off to sea as a deck officer in 1984 and spent a number of years perfecting his craft on board a wide variety of ocean going vessels. This provided first-hand experience in the safe carrying of various descriptions of cargoes including general crates and packages, steel coils and steel products, bulk liquids, dry bulk cargoes, containers, agricultural products, timber, plant machinery and vehicles and special project heavy lifts.

Since founding General & Marine in 1994, Dave has undertaken hundreds of Independent Surveys and Insurance Assessments all over Southern Africa and has served on the Committees of various maritime bodies, while enjoying membership of The Durban Marine Insurance Association, The Society of Master Mariners, General Botha Old Boys, MENSA and the Maritime Law Association.

 

Jean Lukwichi

Jean LukwichiJean’s experience in ships and cargoes began in 2007 when he was employed at a prominent logistics company in Cape Town. During that time he personally oversaw the packing and unpacking of thousands of shipping containers – and gaining knowledge in various cargoes including steel, bagged agricultural products and special projects. His career at General & Marine was initially on a part-time basis before becoming a full-time employee, and has involved various surveys including loading and off-loading supervision; bulk, break-bulk and bagged cargo tally; securing and damage assessment; salvaging, sorting and separating of water damaged bulk and bagged cargoes. Jean is fluent in French and this makes him a valuable member of our team when appointed to attend in the francophone African countries for cargo matters.

 

Martin Lever

Martin LeverMartin has been actively involved in the shipping industry since the late 1980’s. During this time he has gained vast experience in handling various vessel types and cargoes from Reefer to General Cargo and Heavy-Lifts. Martin heads up the Mozambique operations servicing the ports of Pemba; Nacala; Angoche, Moma, Quelimane; Beira and Maputo. Additionally, Martin’s fluency in Portuguese has resulted in him being called on to assist in the solving of complex claims in nearby Angola. Specialising in discharge and loading supervision of both bulk and breakbulk, claims and damage assessment, tally, consultation on inland logistics; warehousing and supercargo functions.
