Dave Johnson headed off to sea as a deck officer in 1984 and spent a number of years perfecting his craft on board a wide variety of ocean going vessels. This provided first-hand experience in the safe carrying of various descriptions of cargoes including general crates and packages, steel coils and steel products, bulk liquids, dry bulk cargoes, containers, agricultural products, timber, plant machinery and vehicles and special project heavy lifts.
Since founding General & Marine in 1994, Dave has undertaken hundreds of Independent Surveys and Insurance Assessments all over Southern Africa and has served on the Committees of various maritime bodies, while enjoying membership of The Durban Marine Insurance Association, The Society of Master Mariners, General Botha Old Boys, MENSA and the Maritime Law Association.
Mark Engledow has been involved in maritime matters since 1996 and can now be regarded as a very experienced, highly skilled surveyor of motor and sailing yachts. Mark is one of only a handful of local motor yacht captains to have international experience in the safe handling, maintenance and navigating of Superyachts.
Mark’s knowledge of luxury leisure craft is well respected in the yachting community and this makes him a valuable member of our team when it comes to yacht surveys. Mark is also a qualified Dive Instructor and is thus able to undertake his own underwater hull surveys and to video the condition for later analysis.
