General & Marine have been a proud partner of the Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund since August 2018 and are so humbled that we get to call ourselves ‘a Rex champion’.
Our role is to fund the management of their social media platforms as well as to offer guidance and support on all digital marketing related matters.
The Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund was formed by two ex Natal Parks Board (now KZN Wildlife) friends, Frank Carlisle and Malcolm Organ.
After spending many years involved in rhino conservation, both rangers left Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve and moved into commercial tourism operations.
However, both were haunted by the passion for the wild and, particularly, their concern for the rhinos of HiP. Thus, the decision to form the Rex the Rhino Conservation Fund was made to support the heroes on the ground whose work results in wildlife populations that have protection and care.
Rex himself was developed by Bhejane Adventures and Mpafa Travel, in collaboration with the Groenfontein Toy Project, all of these beautifully handcrafted shweshwe soft toys are manufactured just outside Plettenberg Bay.
This initiative empowers local women through income generation while contributing to Rhino conservation.
Rex’s story is a win-win for all: the ladies who create him, the rhinos he represents, the anti-poaching teams he supports and the businesses who support his cause.
Rex’s voice, it seems, has filled a niche. The need for a small voice, with an enormous impact, that speaks to men, women, and children, has been fulfilled – and we as General & Marine are so proud to be a part of this.
